LEARNING AND GROWING

We’ve got amazing employees!  These are some of their stories.

“I personally never knew how much marketing of sports was around in my everyday life.”

Howdy, my name is Tali Molina. I am a rising junior (third year) sports management major at Texas A&M University in College Station. Being a sports management major, I study a vast field of all things related to sports. I have learned about marketing, organizational, financial management of sports companies/teams, and about sales as it relates to the sports industry. My two favorite subcategories so far have been marketing and sales.

Sports marketing is everywhere!

I personally never knew how much marketing of sports was around in my everyday life. I found it fascinating to learn about how people market their brands, companies, or products and how much planning goes behind it –it’s so much more than I ever expected.  I have also enjoyed learning about sales, and tactics, but planning is all something I never really understood.  During high school and part of college, I worked retail at my family’s cowboy hat store.  Although I am technically a “salesman,” I never knew everything that really went behind the world of sales, especially in sports.

Sales in the sports arena.

I am learning a lot about the sales world in the sports industry and just how well a team does in a season can reflect in the team’s revenue.  Sales in sports are a huge factor, especially ticket sales.  A large portion of teams’ revenue can come from their ticket sales.  When a team is playing better, they can increase their ticket price, but if they are having a bad season, the might lower prices so they can still hopefully reach the breakeven point of sales for that season by upping their attendance even with cheaper tickets.

Problems prompted a Pixellot solution.

I am majoring in sports management because I grew up playing tons of sports, and it has always been a big part of my life and something I have loved doing. I played and managed different sports during high school and fell in love with the management side of things. While I managed varsity basketball, we would video the entire game with a regular video camera so that the players could watch the film. This was not a very effective way to do things because it was all hand recorded, and sometimes moments were not captured because the videographer could not move fast enough. Those experiences sparked my interest in better ways for athletes to get film and for it to be analyzed. When looking for potential companies to intern with this summer, I knew that I wanted a company tailored around sports, internationally known, and worked multiple angles of sports and not just in one specific area.  I chose Pixellot because I knew they would provide a lot of unique opportunities for me to get experience in different areas like marketing and sales.  They would also give me an opportunity to learn more about Artificial Intelligence. This past semester I took a sports marketing course. I found that I enjoyed marketing a lot more than I anticipated, so when interviewing, I mentioned that I would like to work in marketing if possible.

Always learning, always growing.

It’s been exciting to work at Pixellot this summer with the American and Israeli teams.  I know I am getting education, experience, and opportunities. I am beginning my third week as an intern, and so far, I have learned marketing involves much more than I have learned in my classes at school.  There are many moving parts behind the scenes that we didn’t cover in class and now I get to learn everything as I go because of my internship with Pixellot. I have also learned that sales and marketing work very closely with one another. You must not only use virtually market your product but go to events in person so that people can get a feel for what the product really is and what it does in order to close sales deals. Another thing I have learned is that a sales portal must stay up-to-date and working at all times. I have learned much more than I anticipated in just a few short weeks. I am excited to continue my internship in person and further my knowledge in marketing, sales, and beyond!
