Pixellot’s AI automated technology win Scottish football clubs the digital transformation award

Pixellot’s Award-winning technology is doing more than helping teams win games. it’s helped teams and leagues survive the shutdowns that COVID-19 brought up on the sports world.

Now two teams have gotten recognition for their foresight and technological advancement. Stenhousemuir and Albion Rovers of the Scottish League 2 were the driving force that got the SPFL to engage technology so that it could continue to bring live football to the fans.

The play by play

The outlook was bleak for sports with the onset of COVID-19. with the authorities shutting down stadiums there was no way lower league professional football would be able to survive without its fans and the income that they generated for the club. With no gate receipts and no television contracts, there was no way to continue to generate income and keep the fans involved.

A big win for Scottish football

Thinking intelligently, Albion Rovers and Stenhousemuir decided to look for solutions. This led them straight to Pixellot’s artificial intelligence which powers the fully automatic system for capturing, producing and streaming games, live and on demand.

They still needed to overcome some financial issues which led them to two interest ex-patriot fan Mark Millar of “Kick-Ass” and “Wanted” fame to get the project moving. Together they formulated a plan that got the buy-in from the other SPFL clubs and very quickly afterwards, they purchased the systems and had them installed.

How is it working?

Thanks to the Pixellot system, 22 teams are now being broadcast for the first time. Over 300 matches have been live-streamed and they are also available of course on-demand. The coverage has generated so far over £200,000,  and has long since covered the initial purchase and installation fees many times over. This is a boon for many lower league teams who cannot afford the expense of live sports production.

The simplicity of the operation makes it easy to implement and the benefits are being seen, even after fans have returned to the stadiums. For many clubs, this is served as a means of increasing their fan engagement and opened up opportunities for young upcoming journalists.

The future is covered

Getting awarded with the digitally transformed business of the year award has brought recognition to Scotland’s very active yet less well-known lower league football clubs. The initiation of advanced sports technology has helped them overcome a dark period that could have spelled disaster for the long-term prospects the league. Instead, it is bringing a renaissance, financial security and the kind of coverage that fans could have only dreamed of in the past.
