Portugal Football Federation: A Visionary Leader in European Football

Portugal is a country that loves football. From the legendary Eusébio to the current superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal has produced some of the finest players in the history of the game. But the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) is not only a powerhouse of talent. It’s also a visionary leader in innovation and digital transformation.

FPF has launched a long-term strategic plan, Project 2030, which aims to revolutionize the football landscape in Portugal and beyond. It has four main pillars: promoting women’s football, developing youth talents, enhancing performance analysis, and expanding fan engagement.

To execute Project 2030, FPF has chosen Pixellot, as its digital transformation partner. As part of the collaboration, Pixellot will provide its end-to-end solution for production, live streaming and analysis across five leagues and the National Training Center in Lisbon. Pixellot’s technology is an exact fit and will enable FPF to achieve its ambitious goals and take Portuguese football to the next level.

Promoting Women’s Football

One of the key objectives of Project 2030 is to promote women’s football in Portugal and increase participation and visibility. FPF is investing heavily in creating more opportunities for girls and women to play football, from grassroots to elite level. FPF also supports the professionalization of women’s football, by improving the infrastructure, coaching, and governance of the sport as well as the coverage.

Pixellot will help FPF to showcase women’s football to a wider audience, by filming, producing and streaming all matches of the 1st Women’s League (Liga BPI) on FPF’s OTT platform. Pixellot will also provide data analytics for teams, coaches and players, allowing them to improve their performance and tactics.

Developing Youth Talents

Another important goal of Project 2030 is to develop youth talents in Portugal and prepare them for the future challenges of professional football. FPF has implemented a comprehensive talent identification and development program, which covers all age groups from U15 to U23. The Portuguese Federation also collaborates with clubs and academies to provide the best possible environment for young players to grow and excel.

Pixellot will support FPF’s youth development program by providing video and data services for the 3rd Men’s League (Liga 3) and the Men’s U23 League (Liga Revelação). Pixellot’s cameras will cover more than 1,000 matches per season, generating valuable video footage for scouting, analysis, and feedback. Pixellot will also introduce a coaching and exchange video and data platform for these leagues, which will offer coaches access to over 2,000 data points per match, more than double the existing data available. Coaches will be able to thoroughly analyze games and make data-driven decisions to maximize their teams’ and players’ performance.

Enhancing Performance Analysis

A third pillar of Project 2030 is to enhance performance analysis for all levels of Portuguese football, from national teams to clubs. FPF recognizes the importance of using data and technology to gain a competitive edge in modern football. FPF has established a performance analysis department, which provides advanced tools and services for coaches, players, and analysts.

Pixellot will help FPF to upgrade its performance analysis capabilities by installing its technology at the national training center in Lisbon. Pixellot’s cameras will record all training sessions of the national teams, providing high-resolution video capture at 50-60 FPS with an option to add more camera units. Pixellot’s software will also provide automatic tagging of events, actions, and players, as well as heat maps, shot charts, and other visualizations. Coaches will be able to access all this information on their devices or on a dedicated video wall at the center.

Expanding Fan Engagement

The fourth and final pillar of Project 2030 is to expand fan engagement across Portugal and beyond. FPF aims to connect with fans of all ages and backgrounds, by offering them more content, more interaction, and more excitement. FPF also wants to promote Portuguese football culture and values, such as fair play, respect, diversity, and solidarity.

Pixellot will help FPF to achieve this vision by providing a branded OTT platform that will serve as a hub for all Portuguese football content. The platform will stream all matches produced by Pixellot across five leagues: Liga 3, Liga Revelação, Liga BPI, Liga Placard (Men’s Futsal), and Liga Placard (Women’s Futsal). The platform will also feature editorial and external content, such as exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, documentaries, and podcasts. Additionally, the platform will present a rich layer of data alongside the action, enhancing the viewers’ understanding and enjoyment of the matches.

Pixellot and FPF: A Winning Partnership

Pixellot and the Portuguese Football Federation are proud to announce this strategic partnership, which will benefit fans, coaches, players, and stakeholders of Portuguese football. Together, they will take Portuguese football to the next level.

Pixellot and FPF share a common vision of transforming football with innovation and technology. Pixellot’s end-to-end solution will enable FPF to execute its visionary long-term plan, Project 2030, and revolutionize the football landscape in Portugal and beyond – acting as a global role model for the future of sports development.
