PIXELLOT GETS MACCABIAH ON AIR!

MACCABI WORLD UNION BACKGROUND

Maccabi World Union is the largest and longest-running Jewish sports organization. Now for the 21st time, Maccabiah is the biggest sporting event in Israel and the second largest in the world held once every four years with the participation of Israeli and Jewish athletes. In 2022, the event included about 10,000 athletes from about 60 countries who competed in more than 40 sports, along with thousands of supporting staff, fans, and tourists. About 10,000 athletes from 57 countries participated in the tournament.

Despite the size of the event, the Maccabiah Games had never been broadcast on a large scale. Pixellot partnered with the Maccabi World Union to stream the Maccabiah games making them available to watch on YouTube, as well as other platforms, for the first time. The implementation of Pixellot technology functioned as a real game-changer for the visibility and engagement of families and communities of the thousands of athletes that competed in the Maccabiah games.

CHALLENGE

Pixellot set out to stream more than 500 games and matches at the Maccabiah games between July 12-July 26, 2022.  The immense scope of the games, a 14-day tournament covering 42 sports in 30 venues across three different cities in Israel, had never been covered or broadcasted in the past.

SOLUTION

Pixellot cameras were allocated across the 30 different venues hosting the Maccabiah Games to ensure maximum coverage. In addition, 8 Pixellot Air mobile cameras recorded games from venues without Pixellot Show cameras.

OUTCOME

Pixellot’s highly scalable solution made history, by enabling the Maccabiah Games to be streamed live, or on-demand, so Jewish communities from around the world could feel a part of this unique sporting event.

  • The project included 17 Show systems in which we broadcast from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm for ten consecutive days.
  • During the tournament, Pixellot broadcasted over 650 live broadcasts on 3 different platforms – YouTube, the Maccabiah website, and the DAZN app.
  • In total, Pixellot covered 12 sports: football, basketball, volleyball, futsal, swimming, water polo, judo, karate, ice hockey, floor gymnastics, apparatus gymnastics, and artistic gymnastics.
  • The broadcasts reached almost half a million views on YouTube!!!!

Arik Zeevi, Maccabiah Chairman and former Israeli Olympian medalist

“Pixellot technology is a real game-changer for the visibility and engagement of families and communities of the thousands of athletes that are competing in the Maccabiah games,” Zeevi said. He added: “It is also instrumental in fulfilling our mission to facilitate a worldwide sports competition of young Jewish athletes and strengthening their connection to Israel and the Jewish people.”
