LFP LIFTS LIGUE 1 TEAMS WITH REAL-TIME “TACTICAL VIEW” ANALYTICS

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) chose STATS PERFORM and Pixellot to help improve team and player performance. This collaboration provided LFP with a full Tactical View giving Ligue 1 teams superior real-time analysis capabilities to improve their play during and after the game. Using a Tactical View, Ligue 1 teams can analyze games and make data-driven decisions to boost overall performance.

BACKGROUND

The LFP is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and managing the top two leagues in France, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, and is also responsible for the 44 professional football clubs that contest football in France (20 in Ligue 1, 20 in Ligue 2, and four in the Championnat National, the third division of the French football league system behind Ligue 1 and Ligue 2).

VISION

One of the main missions of the LFP is to finance operations and actions that are likely to develop the resources of professional football in France. With that in mind, the LFP set out to find the best-in-class technology solution for live game analysis.

SOLUTION

The LFP chose STATS PERFORM, a sports tech leader in data and AI, designed to provide real-time play-by-play, pre-game, in-game and post-game updates. The solution they proposed employs Pixellot’s AI-Automated camera systems that follow the movement of the ball and the players in an ultra-wide video format optimized for match analysis.

Pixellot’s technology and multi-array cameras are fully automated. Once installed at the venue, the systems can be programmed and operated remotely, and do not require the presence of a single operator to provide a live tactical feed of the game capturing all the outfield players.

STATS PERFORM synchs the video feed with Opta Tracking and Opta Event data. These layers of data visualizations help the coaches and the analysts in the dugout make educated decisions in real-time.

IMPLEMENTATION

During the break before the 2022/23 season, Pixellot (a STATS PERFORM SPIN program partner) outfitted all the elite stadiums with an AI-automated camera system.

All elite Ligue 1 club analysts received the live tactical and panoramic feed to support their in-game tactical analysis process. They use these in real-time in a direct feed from the stadium or offline during the debriefings after each game and practice.

OUTCOME

Thanks to this collaboration, a full Tactical View of all games and practices is available to the coaching and technical staff. The solution provides an all-encompassing, high-quality, standardized view of every pass, tackle, save and corner for all teams and players in Ligue 1 to improve their analysis processes, evaluations, and performance.
