Pixellot & Sporttotal Automate Production at Germany’s MAKKABI Jewish Gymnastics and Sports Assoc.

Automatic sports production project commemorates passing of sporttotal.tv “digital visionary” Ben Lesegeld

TEL AVIV , June 19, 2018

Tel Aviv, Frankfurt & Cologne – 19 June 2018 – Pixellot, the leader in automated sports-production technology, donated automatic production systems to the Jewish Gymnastics and Sports Association (MAKKABI) in Germany in memory of Ben Lesegeld, project manager for sporttotal.tv, who passed away in January at the age of 30. As an active MAKKABI, many of Ben Lesegeld’s ideas and experiences flowed right into programming for the network.

SPORTTOTAL, Pixellot’s partner in Germany, in cooperation with MAKKABI, has released an app to broadcast the matches of approximately 4,000  Jewish athletes in Germany and their teams. The broadcasts will be available both live and on-demand and allow the creation of highlight clips that can be shared with the teams’ fans and family. In memory of Lesegeld, the app will be provided free of charge to the athletes.

“The Jewish sports movement in Germany is growing and becoming more attractive,” said Alon Meyer, president of the Jewish sports club TuS Makkabi. “The fact that soon live broadcasts or highlight clips of games of our clubs will be on display is proof of the great work. We as MAKKABI Germany are particularly pleased that this positive development will now reach a wider audience.“

Dr. Rainer Koch The President of the Bavarian Football Association (BFV), Alon Meyer president of the Jewish sports club TuS Makkabi, Mrs. Lesegeld, Alon Werber CEO of PIxellot, Peter Lauterbach, CEO, SPORTTOTAL AG

“The launch of the new MAKKABI app is particularly important for SPORTTOTAL due to the sad loss of colleague and good friend, Ben Lesegeld. We continue the app in his memory and as his digital heritage, and at the same time hope to consolidate the friendly relationship between Israel and Germany through sport,” said Peter Lauterbach, CEO of SPORTTOTAL AG.

In July 2017, sporttotal.tv signed a 10-year contract with the German Football Association to raise the visibility of amateur football. Today hundreds of amateur football clubs in Germany starting with the fourth league downward are equipped with Pixellot systems that enable thousands of games to be automatically broadcast in high quality.

“Ben Lesegeld was a digital visionary who worked tirelessly to combine his love of technology, sports, and his Jewish heritage,” said Alon Werber, CEO of Pixellot. “In addition to his broader vision, Ben had tons of hands-on project experience, so he was always a pleasure to work with. He will be missed, but the continuation of his initiatives ensures that he won’t be forgotten.”

Pixellot will be exhibiting its technology at the NACDA Convention, June 24-July 1, 2018 in Washington, DC, Booth #225.
