German sports production company _wige Media AG and Pixellot, a leading provider of automated sportscasting solutions, have partnered to bring high-quality game video to millions of German amateur players and fans. Through the new web TV platform www.sporttotal.tv, fans can view games live and VOD in an interactive format. Pixellot systems are currently being installed in regional league football clubs to go live in the second round of the current season.

Cologne, Tel Aviv, 15 February 2017

With 24 million amateur athletes organized in 90,000 associations, Germany’s amateur sports sector is the largest in Europe. Yet, amateur and semi-professional games receive little attention on Germany’s sports TV channels. Introducing Pixellot’s fully automated sports production solution, broadcast and media specialist _wige Media AG set out to change this and enable lower league and youth clubs to produce their own high-quality content, affordably and effortlessly.

The weatherproof Pixellot camera system is fix-installed on indoor and outdoor courts. Smart computer vision algorithms create TV-like footage without human intervention. From the venue, game footage is automatically streamed to _wige Media’s web portal sporttotal.tv and can be easily integrated into existing sport portals. Game videos will also be available through an interactive mobile App where fans choose their view, create clips and share them on social media.

The concept of automated, high-quality video production sparked great interest with the German Football Federation, DFB, that is looking to increase visibility of amateur football. Clubs in Lower Saxony and Bavaria are currently being equipped with Pixellot systems and will go live in the second round of the current season. The streaming service will be offered for free, financed through ads and sponsorships, or as an ad-free Premium subscription.

_wige Media’s ambitious sports venture enjoys the support of some of Germany’s large corporations, such as Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom and Allianz Versicherung. Besides from sponsoring, these  founding partners will offer their expertise and services in the fields of logistics, connectivity and insurance.

“Pixellot’s automated sportscasting system democratizes sports production. As a content specialist, we see a huge demand for content beyond the traditionally televised first-league events, and expect massive usage of sports video services that let people watch their friends, children, or local club playing in an individual manner”, Peter Lauterbach, CEO at _wige Media AG explains.

“We are pleased to have Germany’s biggest sport federation on board. Finally, German amateur football clubs can engage with their fans with high-quality content, just as pro clubs do”, Alon Werber, CEO at Pixellot, adds. “The young generation of fans and players is used to communicating through social media. With our interactive mobile App, they can now easily share videos of their local team.”
